US drug delivery and contract manufacturing company West Pharmaceutical Services has opened an expanded 165,000 sq ft facility at its Damastown site in Dublin, Ireland, in a development that brings its total Irish workforce to more than 1,400 people across Dublin and Waterford.

Drug Delivery Business reported that the expansion created 330 jobs at the Dublin site and was supported by IDA Ireland, the foreign direct investment arm of the Irish government.

The expanded facility enhances West's contract services capabilities beyond component moulding, device assembly and packaging, now incorporating advanced automation and expanded drug-handling capabilities at commercial scale to meet growing demand for high-volume injectable therapies including GLP-1 treatments for diabetes and obesity.

The work at the site forms part of West Vantage, the company's contract services business, which provides a single-source solution spanning product conceptualisation, device manufacturing and assembly, packaging validation, analytical testing and regulatory support.

Aileen Ruff-Patry, president of contract manufacturing at West, said: "This expansion increases our global capacity to support drug handling for high-volume injectable therapies, including next-generation GLP-1 treatments. This reinforces West's role as a critical partner in helping to secure patient access to these essential medicines."
