SOCOTEC is expanding its Irish technical services platform, with plans to double its workforce by 2030 and bring a broader range of engineering, fire safety, environmental and testing capabilities closer to local facilities and infrastructure clients.

The investment, reported by PBC Today, includes expansion of the Dublin office, further investment in operations in Naas and Letterkenny, a new Ireland-focused website and recruitment across a range of technical disciplines.

For facilities management teams, the development is significant because the services involved extend well beyond conventional building maintenance. Fire safety, structural assessment, environmental monitoring, testing, surveying and compliance all contribute to how buildings and infrastructure are operated, maintained and kept fit for purpose throughout their lifecycle.

SOCOTEC’s Irish operation is being developed around this broader model. The company says its new socotec.ie platform will bring its professional, technical and laboratory services together, giving Irish clients a more direct route to locally based specialists.

The expansion also follows SOCOTEC’s acquisition of Lloyds Datum Group, which added expertise in foundation testing, structural monitoring, geotechnical and environmental systems. Combined with SOCOTEC’s established fire engineering and air emissions capabilities, the enlarged platform gives facilities and asset managers access to a wider range of technical services through one organisation.

That integrated approach is increasingly relevant as facilities teams manage more complex compliance requirements and seek better visibility of asset condition and performance. Specialist monitoring and testing can support preventative maintenance, while fire, environmental and structural expertise can help technical teams make better-informed decisions about buildings and infrastructure.

The recruitment drive will also strengthen the local skills base, with new roles spanning engineering, fire safety, environmental services, monitoring, surveying and testing. SOCOTEC says the objective is to build a lasting, locally led operation rather than simply maintain a market presence.

For the sector, the expansion shows how facilities management is increasingly dependent on specialist technical expertise alongside day-to-day operations. A broader local network of engineering, testing, monitoring and compliance services can give Irish asset owners and FM teams greater support across the full lifecycle of their buildings and infrastructure.
