Wilmslow-based healthcare construction firm MTX Contracts has acquired Shipley’s Elite Group in a strategic move to bolster facilities management and engineering services. The deal strengthens MTX’s maintenance and small works capabilities, enabling the combined business to better serve both existing healthcare clients and the wider NHS estate.
The acquisition comes at a critical moment, with the NHS facing a maintenance backlog exceeding £16 billion. MTX managing director David Hartley highlights the complementary strengths of the two firms, emphasising that their combined technical expertise positions them to tackle pressing estate requirements while opening new avenues for growth.
Elite Group, founded in 2002, employs 45 staff and generates £7.5 million in turnover, while MTX directly employs more than 85 people with a turnover of £130 million. The integration of Elite Group’s team and culture is expected to enhance MTX’s service delivery across healthcare projects.
Daniel Bowman has been appointed managing director of Elite Group following the acquisition, signalling MTX’s commitment to continuity and leadership stability. The move reflects a broader trend of consolidation in the facilities management sector, with construction and engineering firms seeking to expand into FM and maintenance to capture larger shares of critical infrastructure contracts.
As the healthcare sector faces rising operational pressures, the combined MTX-Elite capability demonstrates how strategic acquisitions can provide a competitive edge, delivering both technical depth and broader service offerings in a high-demand market.
