UK outdoor retailer Mountain Warehouse is relocating its Galway city centre store to the former Treasure Chest building at 31 William Street, with the new 8,920 sq ft two-floor premises set to open on Saturday 2 May 2026, in a move that demonstrates the continued appetite for prime retail fit-out and estate repositioning across Ireland's regional city centres.
The Irish Independent reported that the retailer's existing Mainguard Street store will close on 26 April, with the relocation creating three new jobs.
The building at 31 William Street, located at the corner of William Street and Edward Square, was home to the Treasure Chest gift shop for almost six decades before its closure in September 2023 and has remained vacant since.
The new store will span two floors, with women's, kids' and footwear on the ground floor and men's, hard goods and extended footwear on the upper level, reflecting a considered approach to retail space planning across an expanded footprint.
Mountain Warehouse founder Mark Neale said the retailer is excited to continue sharing its passion for adventure with both residents and visitors in Galway, describing itself as thrilled to open the new store.
A company spokesperson said the Galway launch forms part of wider business expansion plans following record sales in its latest annual results, driven by new store openings and relocations. The retailer plans 50 new openings and relocations across the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Poland and Canada in the coming year.
Established in 1997, Mountain Warehouse operates over 400 stores and multiple websites across nine countries, with the UK as its largest market.
