Mount Charles, Northern Ireland’s largest independent catering, cleaning, events and facilities management company, is investing £1 million to revamp its food-and-beverage operations at Belfast International Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network.

As reported by Hospitality Ireland, the upgrade focuses on transforming the Northern Quarter from a traditional food court into a single high-end restaurant and bar with seating for 180, alongside a new coffee dock in partnership with Bewley’s.

The investment covers both physical fit-out and labour, including staff training to support a premium hospitality-led proposition.

Gavin Annon, chief strategy officer at Mount Charles, said, “We’re investing in the physical environment – the fit-out and redesign – and in the labour and training required to deliver a premium hospitality-led offer. We’re proud to be creating new local employment opportunities in the Northern Quarter while supporting local contractors and suppliers, who are helping to deliver this transformative upgrade for passengers.”

Staffing at the Northern Quarter will double from 40 to 80 ahead of the planned spring 2026 relaunch. The redevelopment aligns with the airport’s broader £100 million transformation programme.

Kate Sherry, chief commercial officer at Belfast International Airport, highlighted the strategic importance, saying, “Mount Charles has been a trusted partner for two decades, and this investment in the Northern Quarter forms an integral part of our £100 million airport transformation programme. The new offering will deliver an enhanced, higher-quality food-and-beverage experience for travellers while creating valuable local employment.”

The move reinforces Mount Charles’s integrated facilities management approach, combining catering, cleaning and events expertise to deliver operational excellence across high-traffic environments.
