Northern Ireland hotel group McKeever Hotels has announced a £4 million (€4.7m) investment programme for Armagh City Hotel, covering major upgrades to guest-facing facilities including the reception lobby, lounge, gym, leisure facilities, and conference suites, in a development that underscores the growing appetite for hospitality facility investment across Northern Ireland.

Business Eye reported that the investment was announced at a strategy launch event on 22 April 2026, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the McKeever Hotel Group, just 12 months after the family-owned business acquired the property as its seventh portfolio asset.

Of the total investment, £1.6 million has already been allocated to the refurbishment of the meeting and conference suites, including the Fisher Suite, one of Northern Ireland's largest banqueting halls, capable of accommodating up to 900 guests. The hotel's bedroom area has also been refurbished and modernised to four-star standard.

Plans for the remaining investment include a new bar and meeting point concept, titled The Meridan, designed by Drinksology, the team behind the Dead Rabbit in New York, alongside further upgrades to reception, lounge and leisure facilities over the next four years.

Eddie McKeever, managing director of McKeever Hotels, said the hotel is an outstanding facility with huge untapped potential in a prime location in one of Ireland's most historic cities, adding that the investment programme sends a strong signal that Armagh is viable and attractive, boosting confidence and driving economic growth both locally and regionally.
