Government must rethink its approach to heat pumps

The UK’s heat pump strategy is missing a major opportunity. While air source heat pumps are the most affordable option, government support has only focused on hydronic models—leaving air-to-air systems, which are more efficient and widely adopted in Europe, in the cold.

With just a few thousand hydronic installers compared to over 50,000 qualified for air-to-air, the government must expand its support to accelerate adoption and meet ambitious decarbonisation targets. Without grid readiness and inclusive funding, the UK risks falling short.
