Irish engineering company Glanua has opened its first US office in Radnor, Pennsylvania, expanding its specialist water and wastewater capabilities into a market experiencing significant investment in pharmaceutical and advanced manufacturing facilities.

The Galway-headquartered company will initially focus its US operation on the design of specialist treatment systems for life sciences, pharmaceutical and food and beverage manufacturing. The expansion extends Glanua’s existing presence across Ireland, the UK and Portugal and is being supported by Enterprise Ireland. Irish Building Magazine reported the move on 28 September.

For facilities management teams, the development reflects the increasing importance of specialist utility infrastructure within complex industrial estates. Pharmaceutical and advanced manufacturing facilities rely on dependable water and wastewater systems to support production, regulatory requirements, capacity expansion and operational continuity. Managing these systems effectively therefore becomes an important part of maintaining the wider estate.

Glanua's experience spans the full lifecycle of treatment infrastructure, from design and construction through commissioning, operation and optimisation. Its capabilities include advanced treatment systems, water reuse, biological treatment, chemical dosing, sludge treatment and anaerobic digestion. This combination of engineering and operational expertise allows treatment systems to be considered not simply as construction projects, but as long-term assets requiring maintenance, monitoring and optimisation. Glanua provides these services across municipal and industrial applications.

The approach is particularly relevant as manufacturers place greater emphasis on water efficiency and resilience. Water reuse and advanced treatment technologies can help facilities manage their resources more effectively, while ongoing operational support can help maintain system performance as production requirements change.

The US expansion also reflects the scale of Glanua’s wider growth. The company had 545 employees at the end of 2025 and has since grown to more than 750, with plans to build a US team of more than 200 people. Glanua recorded revenue of €155 million in 2025 and expects to exceed €200 million in 2026, while its order book is approximately €900 million through to 2030. Irish Examiner reported that the company is targeting further international growth as demand for specialist infrastructure increases.

For the sector, Glanua's expansion demonstrates how facilities management is extending into increasingly specialised infrastructure as manufacturing environments become more technically demanding.
