Currently a Programme Chair and Lecturer at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo, Alex Magee is a respected name in both academic and professional FM circles. Since joining ATU in 2020, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of the industry through education. His most recent contribution—the development of the BSc (Hons) in Facilities and Building Services Management—has already received enthusiastic feedback from students and industry stakeholders alike.

Alex’s mission is clear: bridge the gap between academic learning and the evolving demands of the FM sector. Through his teaching, he’s helping nurture a new generation of highly skilled, forward-thinking facilities professionals.

A Career Built on Real-World Expertise

Spanning over 29 years, Alex’s professional journey is both impressive and inspiring. He began as an Architectural Technologist, moving into roles as a Building Services Engineer, Principal Electrical Designer, and later an Asset Manager for a major Social Housing Association. His time in the public and education sectors—particularly as a Maintenance and Facilities Manager—saw him lead transformative projects that improved infrastructure, efficiency, and user experience.

This blend of hands-on technical knowledge and strategic leadership enables Alex to approach the judging process with unmatched clarity, balancing innovation with practicality.

A Champion of Professional Standards

Alex is a dual chartered professional: a Chartered Architectural Technologist (CIAT) and a Chartered Building Services Engineer (CIBSE). These credentials reflect his commitment to excellence, accountability, and lifelong learning—qualities he brings to the judging panel and to his role as a mentor and educator.
